Customer Reviews

Excellent - but take care of girth measurement when ordering

I've a border collie that is between Small and Medium sizes so I went onto this website to get all the measurements of the vest. I was finally in the dilemma of getting one very short in the back but OK on the girth or Ideal along the back but large in the girth. I went for the medium one partly as I didn't want to compromise the cooling area of the coat but, also at 22Kg, he's never been classified as a small dog anywhere else. As it happens it was the correct size - but only just. Our dog is 69cm on the girth, exactly the same as the transition size between small and medium - and that quoted figure is totally accurate. Had the dog been any smaller at the girth the vest would start to slip.

With that small proviso, I've had the vest a couple of weeks. It seems to be extremely well made with very safe, snag free buckling for active dogs. We've used it on several occasions, including post-agility training sessions, travelling in a car during hot weather and just the dog chilling out on very hot days around the house. What's clear is the dog stops panting very much more quickly with the coat on than without it. He also comes over to have it put on him which wouldn't be the case if he was uncomfortable with it.

We're finding an easy way to use it is to carry an extra bottle of water in the car. About 500ml seems to wet the coat well with not a lot of dripping and is still damp after an hours use (the longer we have had it on him). It also dries out overnight so you're not left with an ever-wet vest.

Reviews elsewhere have commented on the light colour and a darker colour might show marks less. That's not an issue for me as I want maximum cooling for the dog not what looks the cleanest; yes it does pick up grit/soil if the dog lies down in some but, for the most part it just brushes off. A quick machine wash to remove some embedded stains brought it back to it to new.

He's even getting a reputation around where we live as the dog with 'the go faster stripes',.
